We were appointed as Lead Consultants on this specialist conversion of an existing laboratory and its associated services and infrastructure (relating to Imperial Cancer Research Fund). We implemented mechanical and electrical upgrades throughout, as well as creating a new ICRF Research laboratory.

This lab was bespoke and purpose-made, tailored specifically to multiple users’ requirements and the needs of their various ongoing research projects. We liaised closely with adjoining users to minimise disruption for ongoing research, and in order to develop bespoke specialist equipment. For example, the installation of the external gas bottle store required consideration of how operations could be efficiently conducted within a confined space.

Such work made for a highly specialist research facility, providing infrastructure and equipment of superb quality. Further, with detailed consideration, we were able to design around the building’s pre-existing restrictive fabric to dovetail all new services and facilities into the existing build. The new design included central laboratory spaces, with new write-up/ monitoring rooms immediately adjoining and a secure link adjoining the Blast Autoclave facility. We also refurbished the existing Blast Autoclave, as well as the adjoining control room and remote monitoring station, and included an extension to form an additional Blast bay – blast-resistant components were used throughout.
